Cub Scout Pack 391 (Avon, Indiana)

Hello Everyone, I hope you had a great Christmas and will have an outstanding New Year. 2012 can be the best year of your life. I pray that it is.

Our Pinewood Derby is fast approaching. We have our shape done, but need to do some fine tuning. I am really looking forward to a great event this year. We are looking for a few people to help out. We are planning on building a timer. What this means to you is a much shorter event. If we build a timer we can compare the times of each car to determine a winner. If not we have to race all cars head to head and in all 4 lanes as some lanes are smoother than others. One of our Den Leaders is researching parts and plans. If you can help him please let me know. Here are some of the tasks we are looking for help with at the PWD (PineWood Derby)

  • Activity Head and Assistant. This would be to keep the non racers busy with a game, ideally one that earns them a belt loop.
  • Pit Crew, they would help with the weigh in and logistics, judging, race starter, helping with last minute car adjustments, etc. 3 or 4 people will make this great
  • Security, to keep the areas seperate and allow the track crew to set up
  • Race Crew, they will handle set up and tear down
  • Concession Crew, Angie is heading this up, I am sure she could use a hand
  • Photographer. Melinda O'dell has stepped up. She may need a hand with printing
  • Judges, determining an award category for each car
  • Race Official, they will run the software that makes the race happen. We hope to use my projector and display standings and photo finishes in real time.
PWD is an extravaganza. You will see some pretty excited Scouts. We have had several volunteers already and a few more will make this great. The Race is January 28th at Brownsburg Fire Training Center, which is right across from Bill Estes Ford. There will be a morning weigh in and the race will start right after lunch.

There is a Pack meeting on January 17th at River Birch. Check with your Den Leader for your schedule on the first two weeks of the year.

Congratulations to one of our Star Den Leaders. Mark Fairchild had a nice article about him in the Hendricks County Flyer.

An idea for our "go see" to a fire/police station

All:

River Birch is having a Health Fair October 27th from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.  It will include a fire truck and ambulance demo.  I'm thinking we may be able to meet as a group and see the demo as our "go see".  What does everyone think?

See the latest PTO flyer for details.

Let me know...

Thanks!

Court House Visit

All:

Just a reminder that we are meeting at 6:00 p.m. (not 6:30) at the Hendricks County Courthouse in Danville for our tour hosted by The Honorable Mark Smith.

Also, my husband is finishing a Google calendar for our pack so we can have a downloadable calendar of events - more details next week.

Sincerely,

Melinda O'Dell
